Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Pre-requisite
- First Responder certification.
- Current CPR card (approved course).
The EMT Bridge builds upon the knowledge and skills learned in the First Responder course, as well as covering additional information and skills in the subject areas of: medical emergencies; pharmacology; scene assessment; and, patient movement and transport. The EMT program is designed for individuals who want to advance their First Responder skills and knowledge. An EMT is able to manage patient care from the event onset, to the next level of care. EMTs provide Basic Life Support (BLS) care on the scene, as well as during ambulance transport.
Successful completion of the EMT Bridge course enables the student to take the Pennsylvania State written and practical exams. Passing both will provide the student with a Pennsylvania State certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
Recertification Information:
- Certification period is three (3) years.
- Twenty-four (24) hours con-ed must be completed prior to the expiration date (twelve (12) hours must be in medical/trauma education.)
