About Us:

Southern Alleghenies EMS Council is a non-profit (501(c)(3)) organization that is one of 16 regional EMS councils in Pennsylvania.

We are contracted to the Pennsylvania Department of Health to plan, develop, maintain, expand and improve EMS systems within the counties of Bedford; Blair; Cambria; Fulton; Huntingdon and Somerset in south-central Pennsylvania.  We provide support and assistance to the Bureau of EMS in carrying out the provisions of the Emergency Medical Services Act and pursuant regulations and provide support and assistance to EMS services, personnel, hospitals and others within our counties.

Our seven full-time; three part-time and volunteer Regional Medical Director staff report to a Board of Directors comprised of 24 members, four from each of our six counties.

What Is EMS?

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a specially organized system that provides personnel, facilities and equipment for the effective and coordinated delivery of emergency medical services within a geographical area. An effective EMS system involves many different agencies and organizations working together to provide rapid emergency medical response, treatment and transport to those in need of immediate medical attention. Agencies responsible for providing EMS include dispatch centers, public safety agencies, fire departments, ambulance services, hospitals and specialty care centers.
